The Practitioner Kit is for the stitcher who's ready to move beyond following a pattern and start creating one. There are no pre-stencilled pieces here — just a considered selection of fabrics, the tools to mark your own designs, and enough thread to make something worth keeping.
We've chosen materials that reward slowing down. A piece of raw denim that will only get better with stitching. Linen that takes a needle beautifully. Japanese printed fabrics that feel like a reason to be careful.
Sashiko was never about perfection. It was about making something last. This kit is built around that same idea.
What's inside:
- 1 piece of raw denim

- Japanese printed fabric pieces
- 3 sashiko stencils — traditional geometric patterns
- 2 heat erasable pens for pattern transfer
- White and blue sashiko thread
- 2 sashiko needles
How the stencils work:
Lay the stencil onto your fabric, trace the pattern with the heat erasable pen, and stitch along the lines. Once you're done, a warm iron makes the marks disappear completely — leaving only your stitches behind.
Good to know:
The denim piece is sized for a real mending project — a knee patch, a pocket, a cuff. The linen and Japanese fabrics are ideal for practice pieces, embellishment, or small makes like coasters or bag panels.

We aim to offer materials at significantly below typical retail value — making it easier to experiment, create, and make more with less.
🔄 Where Our Materials Come From
Our materials come from local makers, businesses, and creative projects that no longer need them.
Through our Stash Swap programme, fabrics and yarns are donated and shared within the community. Materials that aren’t rehomed during our swap events are then sorted, checked, and prepared by our team.
We make them available again through our online shop and textile reuse pop-ups — keeping them in circulation for as long as possible.
